Doña Carmen
Don Efraín is a second-generation coffee farmer whose grandparents migrated from Ecuador to Colombia in the 1920s. Don Efraín's parents earned a living as migrant workers, picking coffee in Southern Colombia and eventually saving enough money to settle in Cauca, where he lives today alongside his soulmate, Carmen Julia.
Recent years have been especially challenging for Don Efraín and Carmen Julia due to several health issues that have affected him, thus placing more responsibilities on her shoulders. Regardless, she has remained by his side, caring for him and the coffee trees on their land on which they raised their children. Although it is not evident that Don Efraín and Carmen Julia know that they have accomplished something so meaningful, for us, it is the love they have for one another that made it happen. "We didn't think our coffee would be so good," they said.
Without a doubt, love is the reason why this coffee is so special. It is not necessarily the farm’s altitude, the fermentation time, or the processing method, but it is simple old-fashioned love.
It is an honor for Cosecha Traders to offer Don Efraín and Carmen Julia’s beautiful coffee to partner roasters, made available in the USA for the first time.
