It is difficult for Aldemar to think back to a specific moment when he began coffee farming. One gets the impression that he does not know that any other crop exists. After all, coffee has been the dominant agricultural product in Inzá for decades. Producers often use dried parchment as currency to purchase foodstuffs and farming equipment in town.
Aldemar is a fifth-generation coffee farmer who learned how to process coffee from his grandfather. Like many producers in Inzá, Aldemar traveled to Huila to work on coffee farms during the harvests. “I brought knowledge home,” says Aldemar.
He remembers climbing ladders made of bamboo to pick coffee cherries. Sometimes he would fall off the ladder after picking a bag full of coffee cherries. As they spilled down the mountainside, he would pick them up, fill his bag, and climb back up the tree. “When you do things with love and goodwill, things work out for you,” says Aldemar.
Cosecha Traders is honored to make Aldemar’s micro-lot available to specialty coffee roasters in the USA for the first time.
