For Francisco, coffee is a legacy passed down to him from generation to generation by his great-grandparents. His father is a teacher at the community school and has implemented coffee growing projects with his students. It was there where Francisco planted his first coffee plant.
Although his entire family worked in the fields, Francisco decided to enroll in culinary school in Cali and later worked in Medellin. He was away from home for a long time, far from the farm and his family. When his mother suffered an illness, he returned home and re-connected with his interest in agroecological processes and growing food without chemicals.
As Francisco began to work with coffee, he became more inclined to remain in the countryside on his farm. He studied and applied all the knowledge he gained on the farm. His young mentality led him to innovate and take risks. Francisco believes a coffee farmer must have an open mind and be perseverant. Today, Francisco dreams of improving every aspect of his farm and coffee. He is an inspiration for new generations not to leave the countryside and an example that, with effort, life in rural areas can be dignifying.
