Jaime has spent a lifetime farming coffee. His fondest childhood memories include planting coffee trees alongside his father, who instilled in him a passion for growing coffee. As a result, he has not attempted to apply his knowledge to farming a different crop because "it would distract my attention from my coffee trees,” says Jaime.
For Jaime, the key to producing great coffee is in fertilization and cleanliness. However, after speaking with him, we believe his secret may be resourcefulness and adaptability. Jaime has made due over the years without a suitable drying bed on his farm. He alternates between canvases and on the roof of his home to dry the parchment. Our goal before the next harvest is to help him build a proper drying bed.
Although he has spent a lifetime farming coffee, Jaime has plans to keep learning about coffee production. He perceives himself as an entrepreneur, approaching his farm as a business. “I see myself working until I no longer have strength, and want to teach my children how to farm so they can inherit my knowledge,” says Jaime.
Cosecha Traders is honored to make Jaime’s coffee available to specialty roasters in the USA for the first time.
